Paolo Holandez Andrade of UST at Top 9
Sea-based Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Argie Andrade must have jumped for joy upon learning that his son, Paolo Holandez Andrade is among the top ten ranking examinees of the nursing licensure examination for 2011. Equally elated parents of Jacqueline Licup, Genelon Caasi, Josam Quinones, Leigh Ann Magno, Vittorio Eleazar, Maricar Ricardos, and Nikki Depay could also be singing their hearts out as they perform their respective duties in different parts of the world.
The eight newly licensed nurses are scholars of the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in the National Capital Region.
Paolo Andrade, who obtained 86%, finished Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Sto. Tomas, together with Jacqueline Licup and Genelon Caasi. Josam Quinones, who graduated cum laude, was from St. Paul University in Quezon City.
Provision of education to OFWs and dependents through scholarship grants is one of OWWA’s flagship programs. The EDSP however was a competitive educational assistance undertaking for dependents of OFWs towards academic excellence. This year, eight (8) EDSP recipients who took Bachelor of Science courses graduated with honors.
Interested applicants may still file their application for EDSP 2012 up to September 15, 2011 at the RWO-NCR, Education and Training Unit, 2nd Floor, OWWA Center, Pasay City.
